The Professional Design Portfolio

A brief introduction...

Thank you for taking the time to visit this online portfolio.

I have been active as a computer graphics artist since 1989, primarily in the software and Internet development sectors, and have been active in Graphic User Interface design since 1992.

I am proficient in Internet application development using HTML, Javascript, Cold Fusion, PHP, MetaHTML, Microsoft Access, and SQL. I am also familiar with aspects of Server Administration for Netscape and Apache Web Servers under Unix and Linux, and with Microsoft IIS under Windows NT.

I enjoy working with talented and creative technical or graphics people on User Interface design problems. I have contributed to the GUI design and testing of a number of software projects for television, PC, and Internet applications.

I studied Fine Arts at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, now known as the Emily Carr Institute. I chose a multi-disciplinary program of study focusing on multimedia, computer technology and electronics.

The creative process continues to fascinate me as I engage my own creative impulses personally and professionally. My technical skills (such as programming, networking, or electronics) have been largely self-taught. I have studied and developed skills as needed in order to create electronic sculptures or to teach myself a new programming language. I usually learn best by osmosis, necessity, and application, and I like to keep lots of reference books handy in my studio at home.

My belief is that the modern creative person needs to learn and adopt styles and skills from different areas of experience in order to meet their needs. For me, this implies a multi-disciplinary approach which has continually exposed me to new technologies or new ways of thinking and seeing.

In the face of my technologically-based career, I have also tried to stay close to personal artistic drives which continue to demand expression. The results of these efforts are located at www.ejohnlove.com, hosted on my Linux server.
